Italia – we made it!

I forgot to mention this morning that Carol was taken ill overnight, and it was touch and go as to whether we would be able to set out at all, let alone at a reasonable hour. Trying to climb to the Col in the mid day sun would be problematic. With the help of a few doses of dioralyte and the lightest of breakfasts, Carol declared herself fit for the 8 a.m. start.

We had a few stops on the way but we made it to the top in good time. And here’s the view!

Welcome to Italy! Now all we had to do was to drop down to the valley floor, and all the way along it as far as you can see, and then a few miles more. We stopped for our picnic at the Refuge Elena, half way down by which time Carol was feeling a lot better. With the help of a stop for ice-cream – remember we are in Italy – we finally made it down the valley to La Palud, just outside Courmayeur. Here’s the picture Carol took from our hotel balcony.

Going out for dinner tonight. No veggie issues tonight. It’s Italian of course!
