The sky’s the limit…

Technically the ridge of the roof is, but hey ho. My apologies for not blogging last night. It was a long and busy day. Here’s where we had got to at the start yesterday.

That’s the first floor, mostly finished. Just the roof to go on. Here’s the ground floor.

Just the gable ends to go up and cladding can start. While the main crew worked on the roof, and another team got cracking creating the inside walls with OSB boards, Amelion, a Romanian craftsman and I were asked to construct the gable end. It needed some seriously chunky wood, but by lunchtime we had finished one end.

The larger cross member was over 6 metres long and it took some serious muscle to get it up there. And then hang it on the outside of the structure. Still, we did it. Only the other end to do after our break for food. The other end was even harder as we didn’t have as much room for the ladders. With help from Jim and Florin we muscled it up and quickly drilled in the screws to hold it. Success!

Then we had more cladding rails to put upstairs. By the time we stopped it was properly dark, so we had to pack up in light from the Land Rover headlights. Apologies for the absence of a final picture. We were late back for dinner, and after eating it was a shower and a quick drink before bed. I slept like a baby.
