This morning was quite disappointing as far as the weather went. Cloudy, humid and warm with the sun struggling to find its way through.
Unsurprisingly, no-one was in a hurry to get started after our late night and the ringing bells. Breakfast was interesting, with a choice of cereals, fruit yogurt, bread / toast, ham, cheese and sausage. There was a curious croissant/brioche chocolate thing for those needing sugar, and a deep brown paste that looked just like marmite. It turned out to be plum jam, fooling everyone.
Having stopped at Lidl on the way to buy water – the tap water is unsafe – we arrived on site and got started. It was a bit chaotic to start with, but by the time we stopped for lunch the teams were working well. There were a few issues, like the structural uprights not being up right, but this was soon resolved and we’ve worked out a way to correct as we go without the need to rework anything done so far.
After lunch Bruce and I were cracking on fitting joist hangers and joists an by close of play we had a good system going.
So here’s where we are at the end of day 1.

Not bad, having started to lay the upstairs floor and joists being hung ahead of them. And, just in case anyone thinks we knocked off early, we are 2 hours ahead here.
Here’s the inside of the poly tunnel built by a previous project here. Tomatoes anyone?

Off for dinner soon. The staff at the hostel don’t work on Sunday. Fair enough. Pizza it is then.
