The hike to Champex, called the Bovine route, was not quite the gentle stroll we were led to believe. It was 9.5 miles and 2500 feet of ascent, the climbing starting as soon as we left the hotel. Phew. Still, we can’t complain when you get views like this.

It was a beautiful morning overlooking the Sion valley. We kept moving as the BBC weather promised rain later. We descended to Champex, climbed back up to the lake to find our hotel. Splendide it is. And it looks like the BBC has got it right again. Here comes the rain. Lightning to follow.

Stunning photos as usual Don, thank you for letting us glimpse the splendours without the effort of bloody walking there, you mad fools. Isn’t there a road? Coach trip would be easier.
Glad you’re both up to the task.
There are no excuses now. Next time we visit we want to see these beautiful scenes FRAMED UP ON YOUR WALLS. You have the gift, be proud of your talent.
